Freedom From the Enslaver

Takeaway: Pharaoh is the serpent-like master who rules his subjects tyrannically. He demands, withholds, blames, and punishes. As a master, he is contrasted with Yahweh, who cares for his subjects and acts on their behalf to set them free and give them life. In this passage, Pharaoh is functioning as a ‘type’ for sin – like Pharaoh, sin reigns over us and enslaves us. Our idols demand, withhold, blame, and punish us.
